  • Worried about a mistake...

    Hello,
last night I decided to give my greenbottle blue sling a waxworm as a treat but I only had quite big ones left.
Last time I fed a big one it seemed to vanish in no time and didn't make the abdomen grow too much so I thought it would be ok but this one seems to be alot juicier.

He has been sucking it all night long and has only gotten through half the worm. I am now worried he is going to overeat just because he feels he has to finish this worm... I can't see it fitting in his stomach. He looks ready to burst already, I should never have given him this worm...

When I saw he was still at it today I started to worry about the worm goig off in this time too.

I've tried pulling the worm away but he won't let go...

I'm not sure there is any advice that would help but maybe somebody has an idea.

i wouldn't worry, either. still a young one, right? needs alot to cope with growing. i wouldn't feed them wax worms too often, but don't think there's much harm in doing it occasionally. i've had spiders leave chunks of prey behind, so i doubt it'll actually eat too much.

        yeah...

        easier said than done.

His abdomen is still getting bigger. It's now about 3 times the height of his carapace and loads of worm to go.

I'm definetely not doing this again...

I'll give an update on the situation tomorrow when I get back.

Haha, sounds like a GBB doing what it loves doing most
They can't make themselves pop. If it gets full it will stop eating, but I wouldn't count on that happening with this species because they seem to be bottomless pits! I frequently feed my GBB crickets bigger than itself and it loves it. Don't worry about it, just leave it a while before feeding again, and know that you probably have a very happy spider right now

He's still at it but nearly done now. Real mystery where he has stored it all, it really is like he has got a bottomless pit as a stomach.

and he will have done about 36 hours of eating lol...

36 hours eating!? Wow. When it's finished dining, please don't offer it a wafer thin mint.

good one andrew, lol. Had to refresh my memory but worth the watch again

Anyway, it looks like there was no reason to worry. He left part of the worm after all and is now chilling.

In hindsight this is probably a pretty pointless post but it's my best looking Gb and i was sure i'd screwed up....

I'll just leave u with a picture of him now after the feast
