  • First visitors

Well, Ruby (my G rosea) recieved her first visitors this weekend, and she was very accomodating!

Firstly my parent's were staying the weekend with us, my dad was particularly excitied to meet her as she was my Christmas present from him. She performed beautifully, pouncing perfectly on 3 (very small, couldn't get any larger ones) crickets right in the front of the tank, she even treated us to a game of cat and mouse with one which refused to believe it was beat! She then spend the next few hours devouring her cricket 'meatball' in full view, rolling it around under her fangs, then turning in a circle, rolling it around in her fangs again! Enthralling. Even my mum confessed that she was 'quite fascinating'.

Then on Sunday I had an old Uni friend and his wife visiting. He was quite intrigued, she decided to give a viewing a miss and then proceeded to tell me all about her 'lovely' cats and how they are really cute ....and wee all over the house.....and bring in half eaten rodents.....and scratch the furniture and people's legs.......

REALLY cute! I'd settle for a T anyday!

aw i love cats too... and oddly i think there are parallels
my pulchra, for example, is a bit temperamental like a cat...and looks like a small, 8-legged velvety black one. i kinda named it "the Cat" as a result
and it has randomly pounced at me...so there's another example!

glad your rosea got some admirers i think more people would find them interesting than realise.
i was extracting the new crawshayi from her tank at the shop on Saturday, and there was a woman there who was absolutely amazed, kept asking questions and wanted a close up view. she didn't want one as well, but she was interested at least!

glad you had fun showing off your rosea

Yep, Ruby behaved like a true lady! Full marks, my husband on the other hand is getting negative marks this weekend. He promised me that none of the recently purchased crickets he was transferring into the cricket keeper INDOORS (I usually make hime go outside!) had escaped........but when I went to retrieve a mixing bowl from my kitchen cupboard.......you can guess the rest! Not impressed! I told him. would he listen. He is definatley going outside next time - rain or no rain!

lol...those crickets are little Houdini's! you chase them round the box for 10 minutes and while you're doing that three jump out.

I wish I could say the same. My In-laws were here at the weekend and as they were leaving, the mother in law saw a spider on her foot. So me and James tried to pick it up to rescue it and then I mentioned
"You haven't seen my spider have you?"
I pointed to the container I have it in, whilst still trying to rescue this true spider before someone stood on it.
Next thing I hear from my wife
            "DON'T DO THAT!"
My mother in law only has the container in her hands turning it in all directions trying to see my smithi juvenile as if it were a shoe box and she was looking for the price sticker!!!
That's the last thing my timid pre-moult smithi needs right now. The thing is afarid of it own shadow at the moment!!

              arg! mother in laws!
i bet your spider will be fine, though...i've surprised some of mine at bad times occasionally by mistake, they've usually been alright.

Sounds like the sort of thing my mother-in-law would do....follwed by a comment along the lines of 'doesn't do much, does it?' thankfully she doesn't visit much.

I must be honest and say congratulations that your families even visit! My family are chronically arachnophobic apart from my father and even my own mother won't come inside the place whilst the tarantulas are there!! When I do get visitors my spiders are usually hidden away in their burrows or bark tubes, as they are strictly nocternal (except for my Brachys, they're just loopy)! Perhaps I should get a Grammastola!
