  • A question about after moulting

    Hi all,

Well our b.smithi moulted on sunday, and she (we originally thought she was a he hehe) is beautiful. She got rid of her shed by taking it out of her burrow, she did this on sunday evening, but she has since then been just in her burrow, and ocassionally moving out of it and then sprawling herself out, in what looks like the most uncomftable positions.

Is this normal behaviour for a post moulted spider?

just stretching its new skin. when ever my smithi has moulted, which is only twice. its stayed in its cave. then every now and again ventures to the entrance and just splayed out. id say its completly normal what yours is doing. just stretching.
im sure give or take a week, she'll start venturing out a bit more once her new skin has sorted itself out. once you start feeding again so in a couple of days, ull prob find things go back to normal if she used to venture out alot

Ahh thankyou very much, we have had our b.smithi since november last year, and this was her first moult with us, (though she has had some before at the shop or with her previous owner) so its all kinda new to us. I was just worried and am glad to hear its normal

      Thankyou very much!
