You have no picture of your own tarantula, so cannot help you. The images are those belonging to Leon Lane and are as stated male and female.

At 6 cms your spider will look just like a immature C,schioedtei and no real blue colouring to speak of.

Please post an image so we can at least look at what we are meant to comment on.

    Mark

Not the greatest image in the world there, I would not like to guarantee you anything based on that image. Try to get something in daylight.

        And if possible ventrally.

        Cheers

Ok seems I didn't do my research with this species before buying one, but am I to understand only the females turn out to be blue? I was under the impression that both genders came out in a blue colouration?

Here's mine currently at 6", hasn't moulted yet so I've not even bothered to try and determine a gender.

I heard that both sexes are blue as they grow but once mature males go brown and only females stay blue. Not sure how accurate that is tho.

Edit to add: I WANT this spider!

In all the I have has kept over the years immature males never get the overall blue of that or mature females.
They will however be just as blue ventrally, and in photographs may appear blue if a flash is used.

Hence why I asked for a photo done in daylight, as they are normally looking like C, schioedtei at the size Craig mentions. It is highly possible his is female and most likely the case... 50 50 chance and all that

                    Hey Craig,

I got a cyriopagopus blue about 6 weeks ago. It was pure brown, no blue at all and it was about 7 cms leg span. It moulted last week and its abdomen has turned a reddy brown colour, it's carapace a grey, tan colour, and it's legs are brown. But when you shine light on it's legs there is a blue iridescence. I think sexing from the moulted skin is your best bet at determining gender correctly. And mine had a paired spermathecae on the skin which was really apparent when I used a jewellers loupe to magnify x10. And oh yeah it's now just over 12 cms leg span and really leggy.

                    Michael.

LOL!!! Must be the females that are feisty, mine is always rearing up and striking at the sides of her tub even when I'm just watering the mantids right beside her!! My mate has a male juvie, and hes like a kitten compared to mine, but then again when he matures, and the sexual frustration kicks in, he might turn mean LOL!! Good luck with the breeding mate!!
