I've had this happen before also. I see you've already dealt with it but FYI for next time; it's easier than you might think. Sink the water dish into the soil so it's almost level with the substrate and allow the rest of the tank to start drying out. The crickets will all go to the water dish and drown themselves. You'll have to change the water out a couple times a day until you don't see anymore crickets in it. The T may be uncomfortable for the few days that the tank is drying out but the crix will die off long before it really becomes a health risk for the T. Changing the substrate, removing the t and all that really isn't necessary.

Also if you catch it early before they spread out and can tell where they're coming from you can scoop most of them out with the soil around them.
