  • Nhandu vulpinus ready for mating?

    Hi all,
I hope someone can give me some advice. I have just got a Nhandu vulpinus last week. He is an adult male and has mating hooks. This morning he laid on his back and made a large web, there was a small white patch on the web and now he has spent the last hour standing on the web with his pedapalps constantly moving up & down on this patch. Is this a sperm web and is he ready for mating? If so how long we he be in a mating condition and is there anyone out there with a suitable mate.
As always many thanks for your time,
    thanks,
    Dave

Sounds like he is good to go Not sure how long this species live as mature males, but if you got him already mature then you don't know how old he is anyway so best to try asap if you can. Good luck finding a female and getting some babies

      Hi Dave,
The web he's just made is a sperm web. He's clearly settled in and is ready to breed. I'd get him a female asap. Try advertising him on this site and the tarantula store also. If you can wait a month you might get him a female at the BTS show, then you can have a go yourself. There are plenty of people here to help if you get stuck.
      Best wishes.

Hi Dave, I have 2 a/f, 1 fresh moulted if you would like to try. My mm was a non starter, made dry sperm webs. Please pm me if you are interested.

Nicola, a/f of the species are quite rare as far as I know in uk.

My male matured at least 18 months ago and is still feeding and making occaisional webs.
