Birthday spid - Acanthogonathus pissii

today its my birthday and the last pressie I received was a spider I've admired for a while, since Peter Roach showed me one in our favourite shop.
I saw one again recently during our visit for the Essex meet and now I can say I have my first myglamorph - Acanthogonathus pissii (Chilean Chevron). I know nothing about myglamorphs or why that's different to a tarantula but I do know its a lovely copper/bronze metallic colour which certainly attracts me.
So, if there are any bods here that know about this species or wish to fill me in with the details before I start hoovering the net and books, I'd be very grateful to read.
Can't wait to rehouse this one even though its in a perfectly good flip top enclosure.

i've had my franckii for a while now, and it's been fine with water and loads of crickets. fairly undemanding!
Mary may be able to give you some more tips as she's had them too.
tarantulas are mygalomorphs as well: from what i understand it's to do with the jaws differing from true spiders in that they move vertically rather than side to side. there may be other differences as well.
as to why this isn't a tarantula...i have no idea it really looks and acts like one, albeit with more slender legs. hopefully someone can enlighten us!

rather amusing...one guy says humidity, the other says dry.
the lesson is clear, i think...they are adaptable, and different balances work for different people and different spiders
so many people believe that they alone know the right way to keep things, but unless people think outside the box, using any advice as a starting platform or something to try, and consider the individual animal AS an individual, not a carbon copy of someone else's, they may end up wondering why the spider isn't thriving.
well just my view. it is nice to have a starting point and to move on from there with a little trial and error.

Have you found your's webs lots. There's plenty of substrate webbing in mine but I'm curious as to whether its going to create a web hide.

oddly, mine hasn't webbed much yet at all. may need to add some more stuff to which to anchor the webbing.
rather ferocious little lady, though she sits still most of the time and is really hard to phase lol. if you come near her, though...she pounces!

Hey Peter this is a nice looking arachnid - are you sure this isn't classed as a tarantula?? Martin Goss classes them as tarantulas.
I prefer A. Franckii though - I like the slightly different colouring it has, then again, it may just have been a difference in the pictures that I saw.
I kind of want one of these now, the colouration is really nice.

From what I'm told and read it suggests its not a tarantula however many sites selling spiders group them under the title tarantula for selling purposes only. Take another look under Martin Goss, he lists them merely under Spiders.
I've seen both the franckii and pissii but decided on the pissii a while back. The photo on Martin's site does look good but I didn't notice such a difference when I saw them.

Mine (franki) tend to web like candy floss, I keep them dryish and spray once a week, all over the web.

Ahh - take ANOTHER look at Martin Goss; Spiders may be the Heading but look just above the Species' list and there's another header saying 'Tarantulas'!
Sorry I just like pointing things out and feeling right about it!

Yeah there probably is very little difference in real life views on them, but the abdomen still looks great with the colour.

It's irratating me that this isn't classed as a tarantula cuz I need to know why lol! I'll look into it a little later.

I would consider getting one, cuz the colour (like I said) is great, but what are its living requirements and specific caring information?
