  • G. rosea breeding question

    Hi all,
On this past Saturday I enjoyed a successful breeding of a pair of G. roseas. The female was receptive to the male and he pumped his palps into her for a good minute or so.

My question is this: I have another MM who is ready to go. Should I also try to mate him with that same female? Is it okay for her to mate with two males? Does that increase the possibility of a successful egg sac? If so, should I wait a while or is it okay to do it now?
    Thank you for your help,
    Payton

    Hiya Payton
I always give my girls more than one mating, and if you have two MM's to make use of...then I'd say go ahead and do it, maximise your chances etc.
I usually get mine mated up, then a week later I mate them again and I'll often try for a third go if the males are ready. The girls will soon show lack of interest if the matings have been successful, and then when you see the refusal you know that it's time to play the waiting game!!

Good luck, and I hope you get a pile of healthy slings at the end of it all.

Well Louise has covered it really.

I always tend to think what would happen in nature...if a male comes across a female he attampts to mate, if that female then encounters another male the chances are they'll attempt to mate again, if she's not receptive she'll ignore or chase him off.
Don't forget to learn what you can, when you can, where you can.

It's risky tho, you might end up having to carry out several hundred paternity tests down the line when both males demand visitation rights.

On a less stupid note, go for it, and good luck. I'm trying the same thing at the moment
