Oliver, with my very little knowledge of T's compared to a lot of folks on here I ould have to recommend an Aviv or Pokie. Pokies definatley seem to be more active and out 'playing' a lot more than Avic's but my Avic is an active little spider too and is always out and about exploring. Either of these would be a very good choice for a first aboreal species for you.

Mary - If all of your Avic peru purple's are not already sold, then could you please, please, please PM me when they are available cos I am desperate to get hold of a couple of these. Thanks

      Adam

You've been given a lot of good advice and suggestions so far, but I will throw in my 2p.

Unsurprisingly I'm going to recommend Chromatopelma cyaneopubescens (Greenbottle Blue). They are not strictly arboreal, but have very arboreal habits when they are small, tending to become more terrestrial as they grow. They are very colourful, changing their patterns as they grow. They are also very tough little spiders and so ideal to 'practice' sling care on. This was the first spider I got as a sling and he has been a delight to look after.

They are fast, but not as fast as a lot of the arboreals. They can also be skittish and some are quite flicky with their hairs, but they are far more likely to run and hide than stand and fight. They are excellent eaters and almost never turn down food, and slings will easily take down prey their own size with great enthusiasm. They are prolific webbers, don't burrow, and don't really hide too much. My adult female is always on display, and my juvie male is quite active and comes out every evening to tour his tank.

Of course if you want a true arboreal then go for it, you've had a lot of good ideas from other people. I just wanted to put in a good word for one of my favourite species

Thank you to everyone for their suggestions, its been very helpfull. I'm planning on making it to the BTS show on Sunday so will hopefully find the new addition I'm looking for there. At this stage an Avic sp. so hopefully there will be plenty there to choose from.

          Cheers

          Oliver

I Myself have all of the above mentioned Spiders and I don't have any problems with any of them. Just remember all tarantulas need to be respected and in return you should be able to keep any of the above spiders with no problem at all.

I have an A.versicolor sling and it is stunning. Extremely fast, and is out of the pot and all over my hand as soon as I open the bottle. Reasonably easy to get back in too!

Love this T and although it's a stunner as an adult I wish it keep it's sling colours!

Got mine from The Spider Shop (at the Kiddy show) and would recommend one highly. Always out and about on side or top of it's house and pretty impressive to watch eating.

Also got a P.murinus and although amazingly watch eat I never see it
