    ok firstly a random one.....

ive just ordered my second tarantula, an avicularia versicolor spiderling,

my girlfdriend wants to name it, (dont know sex yet) but we need some ideas. so anyone have any? lol

ok now for the second question...

my b.smithi is a lovely little T, now most people would love for there T's to be on show.... but well... im not worried but it just wont burrow or go in the house ive made for it, it just sits on the top. he/she does move around everywhere, clibs onto things, often explores the whole tank, but just wont go into hiding. im not too bothered, because it means i can always see him/her, but has anyone ever come across T's that do this or could there be any explantaion why it doesnt want to hide away?
maybe he/she just loves me so much it doesnt feel the need to hide away.... who knows lol

A lot of my Ts don't hide, especially once they get over 2 or 3 inches. It's mainly spiderlings that need to hide away as they would be so vulnerable in the wild at that size. Most of my Brachys sit on display until I disturb them and then will hide, but some of my Grammostolas won't hide even then, they just get curious about what I'm doing. Maybe you are just lucky and got a brave brachy How big is s/he?

As for the versi name, I dunno. I recently got a versi sling, and named it Arnie, but I can't even remember why, lol. I've gotten to the point now where I have so many Ts they get given really stupid or boring names (I have an A. genic called 'Ted' as well)

        Hi Jason.
        Congrats on the versi sling
Don't worry about your Smithi not hiding. Pretty much all my Brachys are out in the open. I find that when they are smaller they tend to hide a bit more.
As for the name, how about Kool aid.

          Hi Jason,
as the others have said, Brachys tend to stay out in the open a lot. Mine are the same except for my B. baumgarteni whose never out of his cave. On the subject of names I called my first two Avics "Fluffy" and "Tiddles". Both turned out to be male. I then named my A. purpurea "Pinkie", (you'd think I'd learn). Anyway my latest is called Pepe, I'm starting to get the idea, just. The trick I try to use is to give the spider a name indigenous to its home country, though I'm not sure the name Celestine fits a versicolour. I used to share a house back in my student days with a woman from Martenique called Julia, so I recommend that. Or Bob after Bob Marley (a bit far north I know. All the best.

as you can tell we just pick the names based on random things around us at the time.

I have usually gone for famous people on tv.

At one point I was going through famous heros on tv lol.

I named one Hercules, Xena and Elektra

songs have given me some good inspiration too

and the last one, my flameknee was named after Furio from Sopranos.

Hope that helps a little finding a name.

Edit: My next T will be named toothbrush or paintbrush, haven't decided on which, I'll probably end up using both. Those names make me laugh so I like em lol.

Wolverine, Dr Seuss, Mojo, I'm coming up with some good names thinking about them now, guess it is easy when you are just copying names

We're thinking about names for our versi at mo, its 2-3" and I'm keen on rehousing so when that happens it will gain its name - Martin, Vera or most likely Tilly

I've had a female B. smithi for five years and she has never once used her hide. I eventually just took it out, which makes it easier for me to see her gorgeous self!

not once in 5 year?? wow long time then... im still gonna leave mine in, because my smithi may not like going in it, but seems to enjoy going on it from time to time

                            Hi,

I called my previous versi Tilly, but it turned out to be a boy. I got my new versi spiderling at the Kettering show, and it is yet unnamed. I may call it James as I went to a brilliant James gig the night before the show, and am hoping this will mean it will turn out to be a girl this time!

My B. smithii doesnt like burrowing either, it does pretty much exactly what you describe yours as doing.

best of luck with the naming!
