Can I please add one thing. These no way this matter would have got this far without the wonderful atitude of the police. Whatever happens they've really been fair and courteous throughout. That's why I said what I did earlier. Hopefully others who might want to try this on a tarantula keeper might think twice, whatever the outcome here. And if it does happen to you, report it! The only way people will have confidence in the police is if they're allowed to show how well they work!

I second your comments about the efforts of the police.
My best friend is a DC and is forever frustrated with the CPS not backing them up. With many low lifes simply being cautioned rather than prosecuted.

He doesnt condone but is always amused by my approah to dealing with con merchants ( i've been cheated twice via paypal.)

That was to drive over 130+ miles to bang very hard on the perpetrators door at 5a.m sharp ! On both occasions the account was settled in full plus collection expenses and I still smile thinking about their sleepy, confused and very worried faces.

agreed, i wouldn't want the police's job...they do a very hard one, and deserve respect.
any irritation, ire, or anger is towards the system above them, not the officers themselves, who are doing the best they can.

Just to let you know that last week our spider thief was sentenced to 6 months suspended for 2 years. Hopefully this will deter others from picking on tarantula keepers in the future

hi all

just to add what has already been said a job well done by sussex police { i to was involved with it all as paid for a tarantula and of course it didnt show up } but the police were very good at getting it to court and finding the criminal who used false names and such im glad at the outcome and thank pc barnes for all her hard work. mandy

using false names...how low will some people sink??? not like there's millions to be made in spiders! just sounds so pathetic, as scams go.
a fine would've been great.
