im not an expert but i have never heard any of the beeders here or anywhere that i have spoke with say they needed a licence, only if you are importing/exporting spiders to different countries you may need some kind of permit and some countries donot allow you to import to them i.e australia only allow homeland t's in there country (if this has changed someone please tell me)
so in short i believe there is no need for a liceense!Proud B.T.S Member

There is no need to have a licence to breed tarantulas in this country. Further as a hobbyist there is no legal requirement for you to own a licence to sell invertibrates in this country. However if you wish to set up a business then you will require a commercial licence, which I believe is in the region of £250sigpicHate is for people who find thinking a little too complicated!

welcome to the board michael
and GL breeding them T's. Lots of us need some luck, if you research the matter a bit you will find most people trying end up with alot of failures.
Up to the point of people saying, I have had absolutely enough of trying.
Thats when it usually starts working lol.
Am dabbling at breeding myself for the first time but no luck so far.
Well my newts have already shown me that captive breeding is not easy, been trying with them for 2 years now.<<< Waxworm specialist >>>

Michael, i love Phormictopus sp (Haitian browns)!! i have an undescribed species, "Dominican republic blue femur" who is lovely, and two P cancerides (the traditional Haitain brown) slings, who are still a lovely midnight blue.
a defensive, but active and interesting spider
as for your question, you need a license for some "dangerous" animals (DWA licence), but not for any tarantula as of yet, and also not for breeding or selling, to my knowledge. of course this allows unscrupulous individuals to rip people off on occasion, but is quite good for those of us who are a bit more principled to buy and sell.Returning violence for violence multiplies violence, adding deeper darkness to a night already devoid of stars...
