  • Wanted - Exo Terra lid 45 x 45cm

    Hello,

does anybody have a spare screen lid from an exo terra viv? I have managed to break mine beyond repair and am beginning to wish i'd just left it be! Any pointers much appreciated, Cheers

    Hello,
If you go to the Exo-Terra website (they're on Google) you might find they do spare parts so you can get a catalogue number. Unfortunately they dont have a direct sales dept. so you'll have to take the catalogue number & part description to your local pet shop and see if they'll order one for you. Alternatively you can contact suppliers on here such as "The Spider Shop" who might be able to help. If you can't find the spare part contact Exo-terra customer service, the e-mail address is on the site and I've found them to be very prompt and helpful in replying. Good Luck

Thanks for the advice Nicola, I did try exo-terra directly, unfortunately they don't currently offer them as a spare part. I was hoping someone might have one from a broken tank or left over if they made their own lid.

I tried modifying mine by removing the mesh to incorporate two pieces of polycarbonate. This was ideal for frogs but probably won't be sling proof. Looks like I might have to get creative with a roll of mesh!

You could always put the slings into a 5L cereal container until they are bigger. Also if you have a female and are anticipating babies, you can lift the sac and artificially incubate. There are plenty here who can help and advise you.

Hello Jimmy, I use exo terra myself for some of my Ts but i would have thought that there are far too may gaps eg. The black strips at the front are vent holes and quite large ones too, also the gaps at the side of the doors are surley large enough to let slings out. Some smaller crickets and even full grown browns have managed to escape from my exo terras even though i have tried to make them escape proof. I love them to look at but have now decided to have my tanks made to measure they look just as good and work out cheaper too. Good hunting for your your lid.

Hi Yvonne, I think you're right about the large gaps. I don't think exo-terras could be considered reliably spiderling proof.

I have had another try at repairing in yesterday and it turns out that it is actually quite easy to replace the mesh on the top so my quest for a lid is now over.

I am planning to make this exo-terra a communal Poec. pederseni tank. I think allowing eggsacs to hatch in there is probably not a great idea given the ample escape opportunities offered by this style of tank.

Yeah I'd use the advice given here or do a quick search on Ebay; I saw some whole 45 cm^3 tanks going very cheaply on there...
