  • Trying to moult?

    Hey all,
I have got a Euathlus truculentus sling that is roughly 1cm across.

For the last week or so, it keeps flipping over on to it's back, as if startin to moult, but then flips back over again soon afterwards.

Is this something that anyone else has experienced? Is this 'normal' behaviour?

It's abdomen is very full and dark looking, and it has also gone off it's food, which make me think it's preparing to moult.
I've just never known a T to 'abort' once it had gotten in to position before...

    Thanks,
    Mart

Hi Martin and welcome to the BTS Forum.

It sound as if your scorpion is about to shed. Make sure you maintian the humidity and keep a close eye on it. In my experience scorpions and tarantulas wait until the optimum conditions before they shed. In the wild a tarantula will often wait until it feels secure. Another trick is changing the substrate as this will often trigger a much needed moult.

      Hiya Martin and welcome in!
My E.Truculentus slings also fool around like this...but eventually they get on and shed, sometimes takes them a week of goofing about, sometimes just a few days, but they get there in the end. I just ensure they're not too dry, and let them get on with it, with as little disturbance as possible.

Thanks for the advice guys; I have changed the substrate over for the sling and now I'm just gonna leave him to it. I'm not gonna offer any food at the moment either.

I have a E. truculentus the same size as yours and it moulted yesterday. Maybe they are brothers/sisters

Good luck with the Euathlus, What's all that about stress Ray? What's stressfull about spiders apart from getting bitten, moults, feeding, cleaning, changing substrate, breeding, laying egg sacs, incubating egg sacs, bringing up babies, selling them, the BTS show, BTS lectures,
humidity & temperature, and general health checks! Nah, no worries
sigpicHate is for people who find thinking a little too complicated!

Hey Kate, did yours do any of this flipping over-flipping back again business?

Mine hasn't done it for a few days now. He just sits in the one spot...
