hiya guys. i am trying to collect all the brachys but am unsure of how close to completing my collection i am. so far i have

b.vagans
b.klaasi
b.smithi
b.sabulosum
b.boehmi
b.augustum
b.albiceps

i know i have to get b.albopilosum, b.emilia and b.verdezi but can anyone tell me what else i need to get

You wont find these in the hobby though.

The hobby vagans, epicureanum, angustum, sabulosum all pretty much look the same too!

ye i know, i hav the vagans and the sabulosum, they are pretty much just regional variations of the same bloody thing lol. still collect them though as it is my quest to own all the brachys lol. and somebody hurry up and get those others into the hobby, the quicker i get them, the quicker i can move onto the aphnopelmas lol

hi nicola, i have had a quick scout about, all i can find out is that it was discovered by Rudloff in 2003 in mexico, but it does not give a specific location. hope this helps

Dont hold your breath, remember Brachypelma are protected under CITES...no collecting wild ones!

well they seem to just be red rumps from different parts of south america. i didnt realise the entire genus was on the CITES list.
i know CITES prevents live specimens being taken from the wild, does this include egg sacks? or can you take an egg sack from the wild and export it?

Hi,
CITES (Convention on International Trade in Endangered Species) has a grading system. CITES1 is a complete ban on export/trade. CITES2, which includes Brachypelma, allows trade but only with a permit (which is very hard to get). I believe there is a CITES3 & 4 but I don't know what they do/dont allow. As egg sacs contain baby spids, I presume they would be covered by a CITES status, though I dont know for sure. There should be much more available on the internet on this. Good luck.

No preoblems mate, its a bit of a chore to sort through all the subsections but worth it in the end. i got a whole new prospective on the CITIES scenario after rooting through it for a hour or so, there's more going on than what you first perceive.
