    And for the mammal enthusiasts......

Close-up study of an orang-utan, a (really weird) flying lemur and a very, very strange, and sometimes unpredictable, large primate spotted at Sepilok......

The orang-utan looks great, are they still running conservation projects over there for these lovely animals? I heard there was a sanctuary somewhere but I might be wrong. Also what is that wierd thing hanging off the bridge?

Yes, there are a few sanctuaries over there - Sepilok in Sabah and at lest one other in Sarawak. Some in Kalimantan too I believe.

This orang utan photo was taken at Sepilok Sanctuary, the flying squirrel was close by (seen at night). I was also fortunate enough to see a nice family group of wild orang utan - male and a female with her baby, just haven't posted up the picture.

But as for the third photo - my thinking is that it could be an uncharacteristically large specimen of the legendary orang pendek. Any cryptozoologists out there care to make an ID????

Nicola, i'm on pay as you go with o2, and i'm quite fond of them! they keep chucking free things at me, or extra credit.

some fantastic pics, Pete! love the pit viper and the flying squirrel thing!
must've been pretty amazing to see the orang-utans too. shame we can't get an ID on that strange bridge creature though!

My thoughts on that incredibly handsome specimen on the bridge is some sort of new species of super race. Homo magnificus possibly.....Anyway we bought it back ( with permit) and by next Saturday I expect it to be immersed in a large vat of alcohol ( Tiger Beer ). One thing though please dont let Andrew Smith cut it up to ID it...we believe we have found a mate for it.

And before you say it the shirt has long been binned thanks to the extreme abuse form Ray Gabriel who when asked at an AGM Does anyone have any questions ? Asked the now famous......"Ray....Why the shirt?"

But it's a mature male, it needs preserving as a type specimen

If you'd spent two weeks in the rainforest with this particular specimen you would all know just how VERY IMMATURE it really is!!!
