  • Ephebopus murinus, anyone know anything.

I've seen a few photographs of this spider around, on the internet and in books. Does anyone keep this Skeleton Tarantula, is it hard to keep, aggressive? Can I find one for sale?

    Thanks
    Alex.

never kept one myself but know people who have and they are as aggressive as they are beautiful. a friend of mine had an eggsack from one fo these and i had arranged some homes for the slings for him but have since not been able to get hold of him, which is a pain because it shows me up as i have told people i will be getting them. if i ever do, i will pm you to let you know

      E. murinus. Small spider, about 10-12cm adult. Comes in 2 variants, light and dark. One has a cofee coloured carapace, the other black. Rarely seen, more nocturnal than H. lividium (if that's possible). Very beautiful and although said to be aggressive, I've never seen it from mine. There were some for sale in the spring at the spider shop, you could give them a ring to see when they'll have some more. There are pics on the "tarantula store" of the dark colour form, as well as a care sheet. Pictures of my light colour form are on this site somewhere. . Keep them in a humid environment and watch the urticating hairs. They're on the pedipalps! also don't be fooled be whats said about them having arborial style feet. Mine can climb polished glass easily!. Good luck.

Thanks both. Matthew, yes, please PM me if anything comes up, I would be very grateful. I'll have a look at the tarantula store website and maybe get in touch with Lee @ The Spider Shop. Of course I'll let you all know how I get on.

Think there are in fact 3 possible variants known.
          1. Dark varient (see link) http://homepage.ntlworld.com/the.tar.../E.murinus.htm

          2. Large varient often refered to as the savanah form

          3. Smaller varient often refered to as forest form

saying that it could be the other way around

          Skitty little things they are.
oh and here is a nice little web site with some nice habitate information.

          cheers
          Chris

I have one thing to say: "pethole"!! lol

Okay...I'll rabbit on a bit...is E.Murinus aggressive? Erm...I don't know, I throw food in, food disappears...not seen the spider, except for the odd moult that gets lobbed out of it's funnel-shaped, webby hole! It just never appears, even when I'm up all night and go to peek in the darkness. (On the other hand...I have a Lividum who is out on display at all times!! )

            Good luck with finding one.

Be patient Louise, when they want a wander you can bet your life the little things appear, (when you least expect them!) Excellent site Chris, was thinking about E. rufescens, but they look too much like E. murinus DCF to me. Think I'll stick with the murinus!

yeah i saw your lividum Lou, didn't i! was a bit surprised to see it so near my fingers lol

to be honest, i think my young H albostriatum looks just as "skeletal" if not more...almost macabre!

but i've got a little E murinus as well, and i can see its legs. i have noticed it's "assertive" but most often wants to run down its hole.

LMAO Nicola!! I've not seen my adult in the last 3.5 years or so!! Looks like the sling is set to behave much the same...but to me personally, seeing them is irrelevant, as long as they are doing what they need to do in order to fulfill their instincts then that's fine with me.

James..hehehe...yup, you know what I mean about Madam Skye!! She's everso nosey, but not in the slightest bit aggressive, she's never made a threat and is amongst the easiest to remove for spring cleaning. You'll have to come say hi to all the gang again, it was a real fun weekend.

                    Well Louise,

I'm glad your Lividum isn't aggressive, because mine is just pure schitzophrenic!!!! LOL Why not even an hour ago I was putting a cricket into Bluecifer's (trust me, the name suits!!! ) viv for supper. She reared up and threatened me as she sometimes does, but as I threw the cricket in, she jumped on to my arm and ran down my leg!!! At this point my girlfriend screamed blue murder and ran out of the room. But thankfully I had an empty cricket tub near by so I seized her and returned her. But as far as scares go that was a cracker!! LOL

I thought I had a few fast spiders, P. Irminia and P. Murinus (rcf), but my god I've never seen her move like that!!

                    Still Shaking,

                    Michael..

                        Hello,
Louise I'd stick a male in the tank, you'll see her then! Michael, so you've discovered fast spiders. I wonder hat your next spid will be? The first time it happened to me I went outand bought a Brachypelma! The best one is when you walk into the lounge on a Sunday morning with your cup of tea/coffee and there's a bright multi-coloured Avic looking at you from the lampshade! To this day I don't know how he got there but he hasn't got out again. Good luck

Michael...Bluecifer..."Blue light bearer"...that does make sense!
also like the bit about screaming "blue" murder.
must be making an obscure reference to the grey carapace

Louise, she was lovely and yeah, she didn't seem the least bit bothered! was a cracking weekend, definitely gotta do it again.

Sylvi, the little dear burrowed to the sides, so if i shone a torch in, i could see her (i assume her, anyway). however, i got an even better look when i rehoused her on Sunday the markings look unreal!

this is a great genus of spider, worth the wait between sightings! i just need minax now!

Nicola, that must've been a bit surprising, seeing an avic on the lampshade!
