  • Am i gonna be a daddy?

    Hi all

Three weeks ago I attempted a mating of my female G.Rosea. All went well I thought and i've kept my fingers crossed.
The last few days my female has been acting out of character, she has thrown her flowerpot den upside down, started digging holes and filling her water bowl with soil.
Is this behaviour a sign she is gravid and soon to create her egg sack, or is she just having a bad week?
    Thanks

    Colin

      Hi Colin

This sounds like the same behaviour my female G. rosea started showing after I mated her. She spent a couple of months or so trashing and rearranging her tank, digging constantly and moving things around. Then she stopped for a couple of weeks. In the last two weeks she has dug a burrow down to the bottom of her tank and for two days she has been in there cleaning it up, and I'm hoping she is getting ready to lay an egg sac.

It's been exactly 14 weeks since my girl was mated. I'm not sure if yours would lay an egg sac as early as 3 weeks but it could definitely be a sign that she is gravid. Maybe try mating her again and if she reacts aggressively toward the male and doesn't let him mate, she is probably pregnant. Other than that just feed her really well and watch her get fat Good luck

        Hi Kate,

Thanks for your response, very encouraging to here yours displayed the same behaviours. Last night I tried to mate my female again and far from aggressive, she just completely ignored my male’s advances. On two occasions she ambled up the side of the tank and went for a walk across my floor! I hope her lack of interest in him is another good sign she is gravid.
