  • T cabinet ideas...

hi all, just trying to sort out where I'm going to keep my new Ts when they arrive - I have a couple of ideas and would appreciate some advice...
I know that I want them in a cabinet or shelving unit, but I have a choice of 2 - one with glass doors and one without any doors.
I thought that the one with doors would be better for maintaining the temperature and humidity, but was unsure if ventilation would be a problem... I would open the doors at least once a day, or could leave the doors open a crack all the time.
I was hoping to use a heat mat for the cooler days and tape it to the cabinet, but if I used the one without doors, I wasn't sure if this would be as effective
so: glass doors or no doors?

Depending on the size of your tarantulas and the type, for arborial adults I'd use Exo-Terra, for terrestrial/burrowing adults have a look at the Clear Seal tanks with vivarium lids online. For dwarf species use pet-pals and for smaller spids try 5L cereal containers. For slings get some of the large pots from the spider shop or PM our Invicta man Matthew!!!
sigpicHate is for people who find thinking a little too complicated!

I bought a shelving unit, that was the agreement with my better half and once its full - no more t's! I'm not sure about a glass one with doors, I dont think it would do any harm but as you say ventilation would be better without. The humidity should be maintained by the container they are in. All my slings are in individual containers in a tank with a heat pad on the back. So for what its worth I say No doors.

I like the shelf / bookcase scenario too.
i have one 24x18x9 glass fronted / glass topped enclosure that i use as a sort of incubator and a couple of sliding glass fronted 9x9x12 enclosures that i put the Lycosa tanks in (just for added security).

I think air movement is important, not sure how much you'd be able to get with doors, worth considering in the end
Don't forget to learn what you can, when you can, where you can.

That famous high street catalogue shop that Richard E Grant advertised do some really nice ones. And if you order one, you'll get a really nice delivery driver turn up to deliver it for you. A driver a lot like me really!!

I had to google the advert to find out which shop you were talking about! lol
There are some nice ones, and I'm sure the delivery driver is really nice... fortunately I'm up to my eyeballs in various cabinets and bookcases etc. - the pros of furnished rented accommodation - so much furniture that you don't care about!

I would suggest for a start to decide what you are going to keep inside the cabinet, how many shelves it will have and then try to standardise the type of container if possible, and remember glass is heavy so you need strong shelves or either supported shelves.

Go for the glass doors for security but remember that glass is pants as an insulator so once the heating is switched of at night unless it is on a thermostat then they might get to cold in winter.

                GUESS WHAT

yep, future BTS article (yes i know but i have been very busy recently)
