  • Need some help

    Hi All
OMG I've been off line for about 6 months, didn't realise it had been that long but you know what its like sometimes events just take over.

Anyway, I have a question, I am going on holiday in September, usually I move my spiders over to my daughters who waters them every day. Since my last holiday she has moved further away. I don't really want to stress them out by transporting them further. So I was wondering if I could get away with her coming over to mine everyother day and replenising their water. I've heard they will die if I don't give them fresh water every day.

I know they can survive without food but what about water?
    Any advice greatly appreciated.

what species Barbara (and are they adults or slings as slings can be a little more delicate)?

    for Adults................
More than likely they'll be ok for a good week or two if you fill the water bowl up before you go.

I don't use water bowls as such, but use a shallow dish in which i pour water into and overflow one corner of the tank for humidity control.

As far as food, if you pop two or three locusts in with them then there's no chance of the locust nibbling the spider as a cricket would do if one moults whilst you are away.

Dont forget in their natural habitat they can go for a very long time without food or water, and if they are nice and plump i wouldn't worry too much about leaving them at all.

      Hi Colin
Thanks I have a G.rosea, Mexican red leg and a greenbottle blue (still haven't managed to learn all the proper names)

Thats a relief, my daughter has had two miscarriages over the last 12 months and is now finally 15 weeks pregnant so I don't really want her to be travelling back and forth too much, but from what you say they should be fine.

      Nice to be back
      Thanks again
      Barbara

congrats to you and your daughter Barbara

i've kept G rosea and GBB (it's Chromatopelma cyanopubescens, but to be honest, that's a mouthful...alot of people just say GBB lol), and in my limited experience, the adults like it dry...so i agree with Colin
i always get the common names for Brachy's mixed up...so not sure which species the red leg is lol maybe B emilia?

All 3 species like it dry so I would feed them and refill the water bowl before you go and then go and enjoy your holiday.
I feed my chiles once a month and even then they are getting fat, I have GBB's and Brachy smithi/boehmei/emilia (mexican red leg ?) and these get fed every 7-14 days without any problems.
