  • Anybody else?

Now, I absolutely adore my ts but everyone thinks its really strange because I'm also absolutely petrified of house spiders or other true spiders and always have been. There was one on my living room wall last night and I was scared to death but yet my 5 gorgeous ts were in the next room. Does anyone else find this is the case?

    Hey Claire,

That is a strange one indeed LOL. My love of spiders started at a very young age, when I used collect spiders in jars and feed Garden Spiders in my garden. Then I started keeping Tegenaria Gigantea (Cobweb Spider) in a tank and breeding them all summer, so I'm afraid I can't help you there.

But ti might be something to do with the house spiders having free roam of your house while you are sleeping (even though they wouldn't approach you!!) and you know that your tarantulas are in viv's LOL!!

How did you come to keep tarantulas??

There are many many people who can't stand true spiders yet have dozens of tarantulas in a collection (quite a few on here actually)
I assume that in some cases there's a sense of security as the T's are in tanks, but the spiders are free to roam.
Some say the size is a big consideration, my eldest daughter doesn't like house spiders as they are small and quick but doesn't mind a tarantula as it's a bit more methodical in it's movement.

I'm still scared of all spiders even though we have oooooodles of T's and trues. I can feed and water them but if they get out it's a job for Trev, I shut the door and run.

i seem too have an attraction too things that i fear and then i just get over it after exposure too it for a while , i am now fearless of anything ( yes im a bit of a massacist) . i want too swim cageless with great white sharks its one of the things i want too do before i die. It was the big spiders i used too find under rocks in my garden that freaked me out , you know the ones with the big fat abdomen , but im fine with them now thanks too tarantulas

Keeping my T's over the last few years have made me less of house spiders than I used to be as I know realistically that can not harm me, and now am the first one there to help save the spider in the bath tub ... but what I can not stand with a passion is bleeming cockroaches Wouldn't be so bad but I have to handle them to feed the T's. My other half laughs that I have to use tweezers. I guess everybody is afraid of something or other.
