  • what is it

hi guys, a quick question i am kicking myself about not remebering the answer to. b.klaasi, what is the first part of its scientific name, and before you all say brachypelma, its not. which is a pain because thats what all the websites have it listed as. it is a sub species of brachypelma and the klaasi is the only member of the group, but what the hell is the group called lol

N.B.: removed from the synonymy of Euathlus Ausserer, 1875 by Schmidt, 1992a: 10; considered a senior synonym of Brachypelmides Schmidt & Krause, 1994b: 7, type Brachypelmides klaasi Schmidt & Krause, 1994 by Smith, 1995: 159; Schmidt (1997d, 1998f) did not accept that synonymy, but failed to present evidence that the species he would place in Brachypelmides represent the sister group of the remaining species of Brachypelma (or of some other group entirely).

... and translated into English :

Brachypelma is considered a senior synonym of Brachypelmides, therefore the correct genus is Brachypelma - strictly Brachypelma Simon, 1891

Just bask in the knowledge that if you say Brachypelma, you're correct

Phil is quite right, its Brachypelma if you ever in doubt of a valid name, just check out the BTS Theraphosidae gallery... this is about as acurate as it gets. Or should I say as it can be... given the ever change world of tarantulas...
