  • Ornithoctonus aureotibialis care help!

I am acquiring a adult female Ornithoctonus aureotibialis and i want too know if there are any special considerations i need to make regards housing , humidity etc from other earth tigers. Plus if any body has a mature male too breed with her let me know if your interested and we can sort out payment/swap for the slings.Cheers

Hi Matthew, for keeping Ornithoctonus, just keep them as you would a lividium or a minax. Sorry I don't have any aureotibialis at the mo though. Good luck.

Cheers Nicola . Also i have heard alot of people saying that they have had problems with them dying out of the blue, whats that all about? Is it a common problem with this species or just bad luck?

i've had a young one for a while, no idea of sex...i just spray the substrate and the entrance to its burrow every few days and it's doing ok so far!

To be honest I've never had that, with Ornithoctonus or Haplopelma. The only ones I've had die out of the blue are baby Avic fasciculatas. Fortunately one of them survived and is now a big strong juvie. Give Steve McIntyre a PM or an e-mail, he's really helpful and knows about all things Ornithoctonus. All the best

Then next year at the BTS show, orbefore if you get the chance, get your mittens on some H. schmidti gold colour forms. They really ARE the earth tiger!!!

i'm like you, Matt...got some "faves" but then i love them all!
                      i've got a few earthtigers: H lividum, H minax, H albostriatum, C schioedtei, O aureotibialis...
not sure if the Selenocosmia, Selenobrachys and Chilobrachys count in this "group" but if they do based on being Asian, than i also have S philippinus, C andersoni, and S peerboomi.
i really like them and would recommend them!

Nicola, that gold form schmidti sounds lovely! may keep my eye out for one

Matt, i recommend H albostriatum as well...i was surprised, considering the "skeleton tarantula" is E murinus and this is the "Thai zebra", i was shocked how much more skeletal and "Hallowe'en-y" the albo looks than E murinus! think it'd be right up your alley mate lol!

As far as i am aware they are not Ornithoctoninae , so they are not my kind of earth tigers lol But nice spiders all the same.

Was going to get myself a h.albostriatum but i want a captive bred one and i can only find wild caught at the moment , plus im saving some money for leeds fair so i can spend plenty

"Hallowe'en-y" think it'd be right up your alley mate lol!
Oh you know me so well lol . If it dark and evil i like it

ahhh gotcha, based on membership to Ornithoctinae, that makes sense.

My female's in a burrow with three entrances that she's made, in fairly deep substrate. I spray the surface occasionally, and just give it a good old soaking when I think it needs it. She seems to do fine
