  • New Arrivals

    Hi there,
well I just got two new arrivals to my collection and I am waiting for one more.
I just got two white knee tarantula slings. I am a bit stressed as I am unable to get small crickets (very small) at the moment. I only have large ones.
Do you guys think if I sort of chopped them up and popped them in to my little tubs the T's will take them?
I hope so, but in any case can you please share your experience with me.

    Thanks, Andrew from Glasgow.

I now have 4 salmon pinks, 1 red rump, 1 red leg, 1 mex red knee, 1 chile rose, 2 sri-lankan ornimentals, 2 white knees and I am waiting for a thailand cobolt blue .

In my experience slings will take a large variety of dead food.
If you have large crickets then the back leg off one will be a good meal.
I have again started using squat maggots (from local tackle shop) and will freeze them as soon as possible. all you have to do is get out as many as you need, wait for about ten minutes for them to defrost and feed your slings (works for scorpions, beetles and velvet mites we have too)
Don't forget to learn what you can, when you can, where you can.

      coincidence

Shocking, I have just received (yesterday) a giant white knee sling and a H albostriatum, I also got some wax worms for my lividum and minax.
I got them from Lee at the spider shop. I must say, if you haven't used his site, have a look, I was very impressed. Anyway he also sells
      "Bean Weevil Culture
      ***Ideal for Spiderlings***

      £3.99 "

I was that impressed with the service and coms on the first order, I went back and ordered some of these.......and a salmon pink birdeater sling...... and a silver trap door. Should be coming tomorrow.

The enclosure for your giant white knee looks a tad too large. Is this its permanent enclosure? A camera film pot or the pot it came in would probably be a better size. It'll feel insecure and have problems finding its food in such a big home.

          Cheers

Thanks, I was thinking along those lines myself but with this being my first sling I wasn't sure and the care sheets are not so easy to find and not in as much detail. ALL ADVICE WELCOME!!!

I used bean weevils at my last feeding session - they're going down well so far, one bad point is that they're difficult to see if they just die on the substrate...

No probs, the slings I get from the spider shop I put in the pots they arrive in but I think even they are a little to large until they have a couple of moults but they seem to be eating ok. Its easy to ventilate them too. Just use a needle to punch several holes on the lid and on the sides to allow for cross ventilation. The labels on the pots are pretty cool for identifying them aswell since they all look fairly similar when they're so small.
