I have just got my male and female haplopelma species Vietnam too a point where they are ready too breed ( was/am doing it tomorrow) When i noticed the male limping around the tank. On closer inspection i see he is lame in third right leg below the tibia and it is totally useless and he curls it underneath himself. It wouldn't normally concern me but he already has his 4th leg on the same side missing. I cant see how he could of injured himself and he is still active just limping . I dont know if this will cause him problems during mating but its a bit of bad luck when you get them fed and looked after too the brink of mating for a set back like this too happen ( i think this is a perfect case of sods law). Any ideas before he gets '' FED'' to the female because i doubt he will be able too make a sharp exit after this!

I have seen spiders with 3 legs hunting and feeding in the wild, so I expect this slight incumbency for him will not effect his urge or ability to mate.

Of course I suggest when mating you make sure you have a large wooden spoon and long steel tweezers to hand.

don't worry i got a full suit of motorbike Armour ready for this Mark. It must not be causing him too much distress as he has hasn't whipped it off yet. Coke bottles at the ready too for scooping him up!

Softies!!!! If they get shirty with each other just bang on the side of the tank (not too hard). This leaves them temporarily puzzled and then you can whip the male out quickly. Of course if its a sensible male he'll run if the female gets aggressive, but then you might need to get him off the light-shade! (yes Haplopelmas can climb).

I dare you too put your hand in with Fred Webst (Yes im sad, but the name is kind of a clue too his temperament) . Been told they are as nasty as spiders come and i believe it. On the plus side tho he is eating really well , so he is not off his food. Am going to wait till night fall then its show time , just too be on the safe side i placed a big wad of her webbing next too him whilst he sleeps, so he has something nice too sniff when he wakes up and gets him in the mood ! Will be a well documented event as i have been keeping a diary and hopefully will have some pictures too!
