  • My new Spiderling!

    Hello guys!

I bought a Mexican Red Knee spider last week on 30 September. Her name is Webster! She is so cute and i fell in love with her...lol! But i am getting worried about her because she didnt eat for a while (about 2 week ago). Is that normal? Is the heat mat really neccesary for her? I hope someone can give me any advice what i have to do! Tell me more about spiders' need, please!! Thank you!

I am supposed to be a first deaf person who love spiders...lol! Is there deaf people over here? I just wanna know it because i am curious. But I would like to chat with anyone

    Cheers

    Hi Natalie,

So you have a Brachypelma smithi. A very good choice for your first spider. What size would you say it is? Also what are you feeding it? If you do a search you will find numerous posts regarding the care of a b.smithi. I know Richard Shah had quite a few posts when he was getting his. With regards to the heat mat, I would have thought if you have a sling it will be in a small container? Could you confirm?

hi natalie, welcome to the forum. congrats on your purchase, really nice species. with regard to heat mat, how big is the tarantula and what sort of temperature is the room that it is kept in. i wouldnt worry about it not eating as they can fast and it will not eat if a moult is approaching

Hi Natalie, and welcome to the BTS forum

Don't worry about your spider not eating for two weeks. That really isn't a long time for a spider. What I would suggest is if you introduce prey into the tank, then make sure you remove it after 24 hours if it hasn't been eaten, just in case your spider is heading for a moult

our chilie rose can go weeks without eating, we think that she is about to shed then she starts eating again, then goes without again!
Driving us nuts because she is due a shed!
