In what way do you mean? Are you looking for something in the same genus? Or do you mean something that looks as good but maybe not so tempremental?

With regard to looking as good as Haplopelma lividum in my opinion there isnt one but Im biased

You could try something like one of the Brachypelma species such as auratum or even smithi. Old ones I know but still eyecatchers.

If Asians are your bag then try C.fimbriatus or S.arndsti

Hi Richard, and welcome to the forum. I think the reason you didn't get a reply to your other post is that you were requesting a H. lividum male, and obviously nobody had one spare

Do you want another burrower, an arboreal, or a terrestrial one?

Have a browse in the BTS Theraphosidae Gallery. That'll give you an idea of what's available.

I would go with one of two:

A. geniculata it's an impressive spider by any measure and will usually be visible and will eat you out of house and home

or

G. rosea -- There's something to be said about a fresh molted rosie. Granted, they'll look a little ragged between molts but a fresh "new" rosie has no equal for eye appeal.

Two nice spiders there Ed, both are reasonable priced due to availability.

I'm a bit Grammostola biased so it would be the rosea for me, although you could combine the "general" size of the geniculata and the appeal of a Grammostola and see if there are any Grammostola aureostriata (Chaco Golden Knee) available.
an impressive spider, larger than the average Grammy with lovely markings and irredescence even when due to moult.

Welcome to the forum...(as Phil says, the lack of replies to your first post would probably be due to the fact there aren't many lividum Mature males around at the mo.....Dont let this stop you posting though mate )

both nice choices...though the question is a bit vague to begin with. to me an Aphonopelma is just as nice, but in a different way, though some think of them as "dull" and the same could be unfairly said for alot of Asian burrowers.

G rosea is a lovely spider, criminally underpriced and underrated. the former will probably change soon, given the relative difficulty in breeding and Chile apparently stopping export.
personally i don't think they ever look bad, but especially after a moult, they shine with more colours than you may notice first glance.
also the (generally) calm disposition makes them easier to manage...though my genics don't try to escape, they just run for cover. they are young though, so that could change.

Hi Richard and welcome, for what it's worth don't forget to check out one of my favourite T's the C. Crawshayi, they combine a lot of the traits of the Lividum, I personally think the Crawhsayi are a fabulous T. with their gorgeous colour and loads of attitude and are well worth the wait to see a large mature female come out at night, I mean 'what a sight'

Nope it was a good while ago. The C. fimbriatus male was actually shipped over from Hungary, and did the job nicely at the time. Still got a couple of the offspring that I kept back

Not a sniff of any males since then though or you'd be right for some slings

I do like the Chilobrachys genus...some nice specs' showing themselves as well, particularly the "india"

exactly, Phil! you proved my point! lovely spiders...so what they aren't as "flash" as some other spiders!
same with Aphonopelma imo...the beauty is there, if you care to take a closer look!
