hi there everyone i need some cleaning tips. the trouble is im not sure what to use when cleaning out my tanks. i read in the tarantula keepers guide that a solution of a little bleach with water should be used for cleaning. im a little worried about using bleach in my tanks and just wondered if anyone could suggest an alternative something kinder to tarantulas.

Hi
If you want to seteralize the tank then you can use the bleach but make sure it is very well washed through afterwards before you put any tarantula in there.
If you already have a tarantula in there, then just use some warm water and a piece of kitchen paper. This works fine for me when/if ever I want to clean spider poo etc, from the glass.
Cheers

Hi Vincent, whenever we clean out glass tanks we just use good old fairy liquid, warm water, let it soak a while if it's heavily stained on the base, use a worn piece of pan scourer, a good wash out with clean water and dry. With plastic tanks, we do the same except use reuseable kitchen roll or soft cloth to avoid scratching. Vinegar can also help on water stains.

Sanitizing fluid
I use a sanitizing fluid for glass, it is the same as they use in pubs etc for washing glasses and pots in, it has no smell at all and leaves no streaks!!!! we use it on my pots and glasses at home and all my glassware including mirrors and windows also safe for all my Ts and Scorpions water pots. Hope this helps, just seee how your tanks sparkleMy Collection: - Support captive breeding

I agree Vincent, As an x zoo keeper we never used bleach on anything the trouble is when warm moist air comes in contact with even a tiny spot of even diluted bleach it gives off fumes and this just is not good for man nor beast. also bleach will not kill off many types of bugs maybe make them cough a lot lol BUT NOT KILL THEM some germs yes but not some bugs. each to his own and i hope i havent upset anyone that uses bleach!!!!My Collection: - Support captive breeding
