  • Subdued lighting for observations

    Hi,

Can anyone tell me whether a dim red light is acceptable for viewing Tarantulas (and Scorps) at night?

I would like to try using red LEDs (Light emitting diodes) to illuminate the inside of my tanks so that I can see the nocturnal activities better. Up to now I have dimmed the room light, but sometimes it can be quite difficult to see.

I thought that adding a few small red LEDs between the glass and outer insulation would give a reasonable illumination without being too obtrusive, but wondered whether it would be stressful for the animals.

I have a Chilean Rose, and the scorpions are Emperor ones.

    Thanks,

    Lee

    Hi
I don't know about red led's but i use a torch with a red filter and they don't seem to notice it but as soon as you switch the main lights on most run for cover so asume they cannot detect red light.
    Hope this helps.
