  • Big Problem With Molting.

    Hi there folks.
Well I returned home from the night shift this morning and discovered that my Goliath had molted, I was well happy and let it be. Later I returned to have a look and discovered a 'burst' on its abdomen! It is about the size of a small kidney bean and looks wet to touch, there is no liquid as such coming from from the 'wound', the T is moving about in its burrow/cave.
My T is almost fully grown, I dont know how old it is.
My temps are correct as is the humidity.
I am not sure what to do.
Should I just leave it be and see what happens?
I am not willing to handle it so 'patch up the problem'
    Will it live and recover?
I am sad at the situation I find my T in.

Andrew the only thing i could suggest is trying to usher your goliath into a smaller sterile container with a damp paper towel substrate in a attempt to prevent infection and keep her hydrated, you could also apply vasaline as to seal the rupture, other than that its just a waiting game, i have my fingers crossed for you, ive had a similar experiance and know its horrible when things like this happen

    good luck mattie

      Damage to Abdomen.

The burst on my T's abdomen has a protrusion coming from it, I can only describe it as is looks like guts have popped out of my T, coming out of the burst abdomed, I am really worried.

hey mate, you don't by any chance have Stan Schultz's book on Tarantulas do you? there's a whole section on medical aid.
i can try to have a look and give some advice based on that, but i don't have internet at home, so it'd have to wait for the weekend. might be better to contact him directly, perhaps via PM. his name on here is Stanley A. Schultz.
        also, here's his website: http://www.ucalgary.ca/~schultz/spiders.html
it may have some good advice.

at any rate, sorry to hear about this happening and best of luck trying to help your spider!!! i suppose a big challenge is helping it without letting it kick hairs at you, which could catch the cut and exacerbate the problem
