HI ive just checked on my gravid r rosea and she has shed, this happened at some point during the last 4 days. (like i didnt see that one coming lol) any way the shed seems to have went fine exept there is a large piece of her old abdomen still attached to to the top of her abdomen, I was wondering what i should do about this ,im tempted to up humidity and try and remove it my self but im afraid ill tear her abdomon, any suggestions ?

Hi Matthew, we've had that a couple of times, albeit small pieces. It wouldn't hurt to increase the humidity and give it a couple of days, or try moistening it using a soft paintbrush.

Just leave it alone. Anything you do to remove it isn't worth the risk of hurting her. She'll either remove it herself, or it'll fall off all by itself, or it'll be shed next spring with the current exoskeleton.

BTW, the fact that she has shed in March indicates that she's made a transition from a southern hemisphere timetable to a northern hemisphere one. If you try to mate her, be sure to use a male that has also made that transition so they'll both be working on the same shift.

cheers Stan I received 4 females and a mature male around 6 weeks ago, I put these straight into spartan dry cages with nothing but a water bowl, into a cupboard which i kept in complete darkness, the temp was around 70f,around 2 weeks ago I removed them, slightly dampened substrate, added a hide and placed them into my heated cabinet were temps are at a constant 77f, since removing the suspected gravid female has shed another female is in pre molt, the male made its first sperm web (that I noticed), the other two females are eating anything that moves, im planning on feeding all up and introducing the male in early may, only worry I have is I dont know the age of the male, fingers crossed though

        btw Stan
