  • G. rosea mating on Animal Park

    Hello all

Was watching Animal Park yesterday (fulfilling the daytime TV watching student cliche) and they had a nice little bit about tarantula breeding. Thought I would put it up here so you guys could check it out and see what everyone thought, as it's up on the BBC iPlayer - http://www.bbc.co.uk/iplayer/episode...s_9_Episode_8/

The first bit is about 4.50 in and then it finishes off at about 21.45.

A mating attempt between two rosies. I thought they did it quite well and the info they gave (particularly about tarantula bites being pretty harmless) was a nice change from the scaremongering you get sometimes, including on BBC news itself.

Nice bit of tarantula action video too with some entertaining music

the music was brilliant, I didn't know whether to be enthralled or whether just to laugh!! Yes I think the male was an NCF and the female an RCF. Personally I wouldn't mix variants.

Yes, I did cringe when she said that the female was a nice red colour!

Good clips though, thanks for sharing

It would be interesting to know when that was filmed, because we went to Longleat last year and they got Red (The male) out for us to hold, which started our Tarantula obsession!

I think Red the male Chili must have chosen the sound track lol

I have it on good authority that both the male and female are RCF. It appears that the female's red colouration did not come out well on the film.

Thumbs up to Longleat for some positive tarantula publicity for a change.
