Male Chilean Rose lifespan?

Our Chilean Rose has just moulted and we've discovered it's a male. Can anyone tell us how long it's likely to live?

Hi Chris & Ant, welcome to the forum. Your male will live for a long time, but nothing like the length of the females, have you thought of getting yourself a female and making good use of him lol.

Linda is quite right Chilean rose males can often last a long time, anywhere from 3 - 24 months.

Where as the females can last 20 plus year or more.

Breeding would be a great idea, as finally they have restricted the export of these from Chile, which is about time.

So captive breeding is now paramount (not that it was not before)

My male matured in around May 2007, he made another sperm web last night. Hasn't eaten for a few months, but still looks strong after two years.

Thanks for the replies. I feel much more positive about Fred's future now. Maybe it would be a good idea to mate him if they're not importing any more from Chile.

I had one last about five years mature. It evan survived a post ultimate molt. (Lost it palps but made it).

We sympathise! One good thing is that he's interesting to watch, as he walks around a lot at night, presumably looking for a female to mate with!

Hey guys, I have 3 AF Chile Roses, maybe we should all get together......

If the hobby is in need of additional Chile Rose spiderlings we could try breeding them,
but you don't want to end up with a mountain of lings without good homes to go to.
What are your thoughts ?

Yeah, thats right. You'll find he'll wander all night long. Thats when you know he raring to go, lol!

I'll post some pics Craig. The oldest female is 20 ish, youngest (captive bred by me) 13,
I'd say they're all the normal colour form, pretty sure I hadn't heard of the red form back
then, has it been in the hobby long ?

Don't know alan.....but might recognise him by sight, not that many of us over here.. : )
