  • Pronunciation Difficulties.

    Hi everyone,

I won't lie. I have a problem pronouncing most of the scientific names for tarantulas.

I enjoy using the scientific names in conversations and when I can't pronounce a certain name I feel like an idiot.

So I'll make a list of the main difficulties and maybe you could break them down and even add a couple more if you think they will help.

    Thanks.

    Acanthoscurria
    Chromatopelma Cyaneopubescens
    Eucratoscelus
    Poecilotheria
    Euathlus vulpinus
    Pamphobeteus fortis
    Augacephalus
    Citharischius crawshayi
    Selenocosmia
    Psalmopoeus irminia

I feel, ask now then saved from embarrassment later.

Agian if you think of anymore please put them down.

    Thanks again,

    Ian

Here you go (I may be wrong though, lol)

    Acanthoscurria - A-can-tho-scoo-re-a

    Chromatopelma Cyaneopubescens - Chrome-a-toe-pel-ma cyan-A-pube-s-ens

    Eucratoscelus - You-crat-o-sell-us

    Poecilotheria - Po-eck-ill-o-th-ee-re-a

    Euathlus vulpinus - You-a-thlus vul-peen-us

    Pamphobeteus fortis - Pam-fo-bee-t-us fort-us

    Augacephalus - Og-a-cef-a-l-us

    Citharischius crawshayi - Not sure but at a guess - Sith-a-risk-ee-us craw-shy-A

    Selenocosmia - Sell-n-o-cos-me-a

    Psalmopoeus irminia - (silent 'p') salm-o-pay-us

There you go, hopefully they're mostly right. Not sure about the king baboon pronunciation though.
