  • G.rosea made cool web but why?

I've had my Grammostola rosea for 2 months now and it's laid some little webbing here and there. But only in the last 2 days he/she has made a cool looking web.

My thoughts are, it could just be establishing a den for it's self.
    I don't know tho.

Looks really cool I don't think he's finished tho.

    What does everyone else think?

    Hi Ian
looks like the start of a moulting mat to me
If thats the case it may build it up over a couple of days before shedding its skin
    Good luck with it

Looks more like a silk chamber in readiness for egg-sac construction If it thickens it up with extra silk then you'll know.

Perhaps mated before you obtained the spider?

I would'nt beleive so, not mature. It's only 3" at most and unsexed till it molts.

            Exciting update!

Hi guys, Like I said about 2-3 days ago my little G.rosea started making a very cool looking web. I wasn't sure why (been new to the hobby) but I had my ideas which corresponded with other peoples thought.

So I go into my spider room at 6:20 this morning (couldn't sleep, got 3 more T's coming today too excited) and I see my little guy like this......

I just hope he/she makes it through ok.

Then he can be sexed and given a name!

I'll keep you all updated as he goes along.

              Hi Ian,

All should be fine, just make sure you dont disturb. Watch not touch till all done. And hope you can get hold of the skin afterwards so you can get a good look at it to try and sex.

Oh don't worry, I'm keeping my distance. I don't want anything to go wrong. I had a little look 5 minutes ago and one of his legs are moving which is cool.

                  Molt Update!

I've just had another little peak and he's coming on now. The last time I looked he was still on his back, one leg moving. Now it looks like he's got all his legs out of the old skin and working on the abdomen. I'll take some photo's later on to show the finished reuslts.

I may be back before with updates.

                    Update!

Looks like he's fully finished, not 100% sure since he's laying underneath it. I'm going to wait till he's moved away from the exuvium so I can take some photos for everyone to see.

Thanks, I couldn't be anymore pleased with how that went.

I've had a look at the exuvium to determine the sex. I would say Female but even tho I know what to look out for, I don't beleive I'm experienced enough to give a accurate answer.

So I'm going to send the exuvium to a friend and see what he has to say.
