Another spot of unusual behaviour?

I leave them as long as possible . The only time they really get cleaned out is either if they need a bigger home or a severe case of mites is observed. But i do keep tank cleaner wood lice in the vast majority of my tanks and I Dry most of my terrestrial spiders tanks out to mimic a dry period during there natural climate (which will bring down any numbers of mites down.). Doing it too often seems like a big waste of time and money and may cause unnecessary stress to the spider. If you do a spot clean at least 2 days after you fed your spider you will not get any mould. As for doing it after every moult it could be a bit futile for me as alot of my spider incorporate the exuvium into the walls of their burrow.
You must have alot of money and free time if you are cleaning out this often!

It's not as much "alot of money and free time" but more the quality of life and health.

I've only had one incident with mold and have had no problems with mites. So two of these three rules rarely occur. As for cleaning after molting, I've read about it and it's just apart of what I do.

It's good to keep your Tarantulas clean but what's your reasoning behind
changing the substrate after every molt ?
Think the disturbance outweighs the benefits.... Particularly with spiderlings

It really will be ok if you just take out the moult and leave your ts to settle,They are so vunerable at this stage and really and truley are best left alone. They web and make the viv thier home and that alone tells you that they are fine. If you came home and found that someone had taken out all of your furniture and carpets etc and replaced it with some other stuff how would you feel . Just another way of looking at it.!if it aint broke don.t fix it! as my mum would say lol.Maybe you are a bit like me when several people used to say when I was younger you will kill em with kindness Yvonne Leave the poor bu--ers alone LOL but that was my grandfather so I am ging back somewhat

I don't change my slings substrate because molts are too close together. I don't change my GGB substrate either because of it's webbing. Really I only change the substrate with my older T's. Also I'm not going to change my Chile red zebra substrate this time round because she's made a really cool burrow.

I believe my G.pulchripes is blocking his hide up because he's getting ready to molt. I caught him out and about last night so I got a quick photo for comparison.




Conditions are right for him so hoping everything goes well.

This is just an update for people interested.

My G.pulchripes as been hidden away in his hide for 6 days now.

Hopefully we'll see him emerge a fresh looking T.
