  • no silk ?

Has anyone here ever known of a "T" that has no silk ? My Venezuala Suntiger Has not spun any silk for 3 or 4 months now. Not that she dose'nt try. I just watched her trying to cover the entrance to one of her favorite spots. All the motions and all, spinneretts moving and all. Just no silk. Any one ever see this ?

Maybe her spinerettes are damaged in some way.

I don't think so. Like I said, she uses them exactly as if webbing. They seem to work fine except for no silk ?? Other than that she is fine, very active nightly. Stays in several spots daily. Eats fine. But there isn't one thread of silk in her enclosure ??? I don't know................

Well if there's no silk and she is going through the motions of webbing, then they are clearly not working fine

Defective, damaged, or undeveloped silk glands? Blocked spigots? A genetic mutation that stops the spider producing silk? It could be anything I suppose.

I wonder if a moult will make a difference?

By working fine I meant they move ok and are visably perfect. You are right they are clearly not working fine. Thank you for your input. I will keepa eye on her. I am hoping a molt will solve the problem.

I knew what you meant William, it was a weak attempt at humour

Even if she doesn't recover with a moult, then it shouldn't really cause her any problems I shouldn't think. Was she webbing normally before?

The weakness lies with me. I need instructions for most everything !! Yea at first she was webbing like anyother T. I guess as long as she is eating normally and seemingly happy, I won't loose any sleep
over it. Just seems wierd and kinda funny to watch her shooting blanks...........
