  • Heating for a Curlyhaired Tarantula?

Just bought a heat mat for my Curlyhair's tank.I havent got the tarantula yet, and wanted to make sure everything was in place before she comes.

The tank Ive got is 12" by 8" by 8".
Unfortunately, the heat mat I've been given is 11" by 11", and is 12 watts

I've put up an advert about this on the BTS bulletin board, as I am under the impression that 12 watts is too high for the tarantula, and 11"x11" is too large for my tank, and if i only put half the mat under the tank, the tank would be prone to cracking.

Is this all correct, or should I not worry?

All and any suggestions muchly appreciated

    HitokiriSessha,

For a tank that size the heat mat is alittle too big but you can always place the tank over the heat mat and the excess can fold over the back.

As for the power output of the heat mat...12 watts is gona be too hot so you can either use a thermostat to control the temp or get a lower watt heat mat that can just plug in. What kind of room temperature are you keep the Tarantula? If its 75F or above then you wont need a heat mat
