  • Heating for Grammostola pulchra

Hi, I'm new to keeping tarantulas and have had an immature G. pulchra for 3 weeks now. I'm worried about the temperature in the tank - my room is COLD, and the VERY LITTLE information I've been able to find about this species is that the minimum recommended temperature is 24 degrees C.

I have 2 heat mats and insulation round the tank but it doesn't reach 24 degrees, though I don't think it will be likely to fall below 20 degrees - but can't be sure about that as I keep giving in and flicking my room heater on (despite discomfort to my freakishly cold-loving self). What happens when I'm not there to do it? I'd rather heat the tank not the whole room...

She hasn't eaten in the 3 weeks since I got her and I don't think she's going to moult. Perhaps she's too cold? - though she seems fairly active.

Anyone know what G. pulchra actually needs in the way of temperatures?

Anyone know where to go to find information like this about particular species...?

Please help this newcomer worried about her pet.
