yep i thought she was moulting as she was still young, only had her for 4 weeks..

only when i looked closer the box had a few flies in so i took the pot out side to try and remove the flies

My fave T had died, yeah she was young but im starting to think im doing something wrong... seeing as i found 2 of my scorps dead the other day

things like this that make you wonder why you bother

Sorry to hear that Joan. Are you definately sure it was dead though as spiders don't die on their backs unless there was a problem during the moult. I'm sure it's just bad luck. Looking at your collection you've kept plenty alive so I wouldn't get yourself too down. Keep your chin up.

        know the feeling Joan!!!
sometimes things happen and we don't yet know all that can cause a spider or scorpion to die.
we all have loads of learning to do, and while it's gutting, these things do happen...somethings we can change by experience, but some stuff i wonder if we'll ever be able to prevent or cure.
alot of people feel like giving up when there's a few deaths at once, but don't throw in the towel yet! you'll do fine

        sorry for your losses though

Yeah, thats right but it can also happen for no apparent reason too so don't beat yourself up about it. Generally when they die they're upright with their legs curled under so if they're on their back they might appear dead but just resting. I lost my first sling a few weeks back too. I was gutted. It was a P. ornata. The last few days I saw it it was stumbling around as if it had that "dyskinetic syndrome" and was very lethargic. One day it disappeared into it's burrow and that was the last I saw of it. I left it a few weeks hoping it would come out having moulted but when I eventually dug it out it was dead . I don't think it was anything I did wrong (at least I hope not). These things just happen from time to time but don't let your bad experience put you off. It's all part of the highs and lows of the hobby. I'm sure you'll have plenty highs in the future.

agreed, Craig, and i understand, Joan! it's tough but there is alot to look forward to in the future

might be encouraging to remember the mortality rate in the wild is VERY high, so we do our best and sometimes the spiderlings we have are just not going to make it, genetically speaking. it's possible that with so many young, some are just not destined for long lives. it's sad, but i reckon alot that would die in the wild have a fighting chance in captivity... so gotta balance the sadness with the knowledge that they'd have no one trying to help them in nature.
