A 5 cm layer of substrate would be fine. You could use coir, peat or even a mix of these with 50% added vermiculite. It's unlikely that your Brachypelma will burrow, but a slab of cork-bark on the surface with an excavation under it would be great.
Remember to nuke any substrates in a microwave for 10 minutes (to steam-kill any mite eggs). Obviously let it cool before you use it
