  • Types of fovea

Could anyone explain me how many types of fovea are found in Theraphosidae.

So far I know that there are:

    procurved

    recurved

    transverse

    Is that right?

Do all species in one genus usually possess the same type of fovea?
I'd be grateful if someone showed me some actual examples on photos

    Regards

    Adam

    Hi Adam,

Transverse foveae go across the carapace from side to side, at 90 degrees to your illustration (transverse means lying across)

You also have some that are simply oval pits, foveal protuberances which stick up such as in Ceratogyrus spp. and so on.

I'm sure that the taxo types will be happy to supply more examples

You forgot that it can be simply straight.
