brilliant Ray! looking forward to it. I gather they're having a "spider week" this week, we had Steatoda yesterday. Wouldn't miss it for the world.

As far as I am aware it is national. they filmed at my house a few weeks back and they need some tarantulas on the show.

I missed lasts nights episode (Thursday 17.09.09), can anyone tell me what spider they were showing? The ladybird spider on Wednesday nights was an absolute beauty. Even Mrs Ferguson said as spiders go, it was very pretty.

Okay guys nice job of advertising T's as pets but did there really have to be handling? I personally don't think T's should be handled unless it is absolutely necessary. Just my tuppence worth.

The piece to camera with Ray was perfectly okay. The studio shots were a bit excessive. Perhaps George should have been the only one to handle them, but saying that, at one point, I thought the B.smithi was about to make a run for it which could have been disastrous

There's no better way of demonstrating (to an ill informed public) that a tarantula isn't a deadly venomous animal than to pick it up.

I suspect that primetime TV slot has greatly improved the public's understanding of tarantulas - far better than the sensational rubbish that's usually presented about tarantulas in the media. OK, maybe the 100 m leg-span smithi on Eastbourne Pier was pushing it a little, but the rest of the coverage was positive.

I did notice a damn fine poster in the background shots too

Well done Ray & Angela for getting the BTS mentioned on primetime TV!!

                          Cheers,
                          Richard

I guessed that was Rays intention Richard as to the handling. Hence my sly dig in my first post
It was good for George to ask Victoria Wood which she thought was the most dangerous and it just proved the public's misconception. The smithi is the one shown in films as the deadly creature.
All in all though, The One Show has done a great job with Spider Week. It was just a shame the slots were so short.

As chance would have it I was actually eating my dinner when this came on the telly. Lots of cheering etc when I heard the name of this fantasic organisation. I agree with Andrew that the 'live tarantula holding bit' did look like it could go wrong (never work with children or animals) but every second after the BTS' name was said helped promote a much more possitive image of these creatures we all care about.

                              I saw that poster too...
