I'll try and get a couple of shots in the morning, or when I get home from work tomorrow, I'll get a few of my freshly molted G Concepcion too if it can be bothered getting out of it's burrow The lividum is a cracking looking little spider, well pleased!
when i got my chilli she was in a locus box with vermiculite in the bottom it was horrible. the vermiculite was full of alsorts of left overs now shes happy in a large terrarium with nice thick substrate.
If you treat your spiders like tropical fish and look at them for their beauty in as close a natural habitat as you can provide there's not real difference between a feisty species and a docile one, if you grow the spider on from a sling or small juvie then you'll become accustomed to the traits of that particular species and improvise, overcome and adapt to it's needs. Just practice "care and attention" when housekeeping etc. Complacency should never outweigh confidence when dealing with the slightly more defensive, agressive, faster species.
Don't forget to learn what you can, when you can, where you can.
I couldnt get a shot of the lividum, during the night it found the burrow I started for it and hasnt shown itself yet so i'll try that one when it eventually comes out, but I did get one of my G Concepcion, when I get up in the morning and start moving about it comes out and sits for a bit and then retreats to its burrow when it realises its not dinner time I can't figure out how to upload the image though????
Hi Stephen, we had the same problem which Colin sorted out for us. If you put on new reply, go to the paperclip at the top of the window and it shows attachments, click on that, press browse, it'll go to your pics, click the pic you want, do that for each pic, then press upload and wait until it says uploaded, close the window, then post the thread and they should come up. Ours did the other day.

That's a very good point. I'm still going to get a few more docile species to get my confidence up before moving onto the old worlds. Sounds silly but the fact that my spiders are mostly pet rocks is a bit unnerving at times because I forget how fast they can be when they eventually do bolt. My plan is to get an Avic at some point in the future to accustomise myself with a more active species. I need more space though, the teeny IKEA table that I bought is nowhere near big enough for what I want. I want to get some kind of shelving unit but need advice on how to set up the heating aspect of it.
*Sorry to go off topic
I've read through all the replies posted to your question.
I got myself a C/Blue about 4 or 5 months ago roughly as the shop I got her from wasn't looking after her properly and I felt really bad for her!
I've been in the hobby for just under a year (about half a year at the time of purchase) and I've had no problems with her whatsoever.
I rarely see mine. There was a period where I didn't see her for about 3 weeks! They keep themselves to themselves and if left to their own devices you'll experience no problems at all.
Oh yeah, and just wait for the final moult!
The colouration is incredible, you'll be glad you got one!
All the best mate
Hi Matt, yeah mine has found the burrow now but has sealed itself in with a very thin layer of silk??? not sure whats going on there, I'm going to leave it alone for a week and then try feeding it one cricket and see if it takes it. One question I have is do you keep the surface substrate damp as the humidity it between 80/90% but the top cm or so of substrate is dry??? I'm wondering if the dry could be affecting it if you see what I mean? I want to get it right so I have a content spider oh the temperature is around 26 degrees C. I bet its a treat when you do finally get a glimpse though? Amazing looking spider, first time I looked at the Spidershop site I just thought I want one of them I'd never seen a spider like that in my life!
occasionally in the hobby you will get a H.Lividum thats out and about and very active at night but the majority will burrow and spend all thier time hidden until its time to feed. dont worrie if its webbed its self in its burrow. if you put in a couple of crickets a week and leave them for a couple of days you will notice them dissapearing, the spider will hunt when its hungry.
i keep mine at 22-24 degrees with humidity between 75-80%, it has a good 10 inches of substrata and has made an impressive burrow. i'm lucky if i see it once a week.
just out of interest stephen, what sort of tank do you have it in and what heat source are you using?
heres a pic of mine on one of the rare occasions its been out.
ok cool thankyou Wayne I just hadnt seen the webbing itself up inside a burrow before, I've popped a cricket in and will keep a close eye on it for a couple of days. it must like the burrow I started for it as it hasnt moved since it found it, I'll definatly get a few pics and post them when I am able to. Thanks again for the advice Wayne
