  • Identification: "Bought as Hysterocrates hercules"

    Greetings.
I received this one as a freebie, as H. hercules when it was a tiny sling. These are my first photos of it during 3 years. I had no idea when it molted, what did it do, what does it look like during this long period.

Now i managed to get some photos as i rehoused it, and i have read several topics about this genus claiming that "no H. hercules exist, your H. hercules is either a H. gigas or H. ederi"

What are your ideas? I'd would like to know.

Note: Please, I dont want to start a discussion about if anyone had a real H. hercules or anyone id'ed it since 1987 or something else. Just your ideas are appreciated. I'm writing this note because the same post of mine on a previous forum started a different discussion than i needed. Thanks for your understanding.

More like the answers in that thread didn't suit what you want to hear. Good luck You were linked to Richard's post about the state of Hysterocrates in the hobby.

You can't ask about a spider you bought as H. hercules and not expect folks to discuss the problematic nature of this name, and the spiders which have been sold as such.

    Take care,
    Eric

The best information on the web is the post by Richard which you have been already directed to.

You CANNOT identify Hysterocrates sp from photographs. (yet)

Sorry that is the best most up to date information you can get until Richards paper on Hysterocrates is published.

        Regards

        Ray
