  • moult problem

my spiderling moulted for the second time this morning, it hasnt however completed seperating its old skin and has the entire moulted body attached to its abdomen. Im increasing the humidity by misting but im weary of any manual removal. I have read of people using tweesers and a paintbrush but im not sure if i may rip the back of the abdomen if i do so. any advie would be greatly appreciated

i've had this problem befor but never with a spiderling, you did right by increasing the humidity but some form of manual removal may be nessecary, if you do intend to try to remove the exuvium it will help if you apply a few drops of warm water to the old skin and leave for a minute or two then using a small pair of tweezers and a small, wet, soft bristled paintbrush you may be able to coax the exuvium from the spider. dont attempt this if you are nervous or shakey as a small jolt whilst holding the exuvium still attached may cause serious damage to the spider.

used a pair of tweezers and let the sling wrigle itself out. there is atiny part f the skin left on the back of the abdomen but as it is not affecting it i wont worry about that. I assume it will removeit eventually or shall loose it next time she moults. I definatly learnt my lesson, increase humidity better during moult time. cheers for ur help guys

glad you've got the issue sorted mate, the only thing to bear in mind is that any of the old exuvium left on the abdomen may have a torniquet effect as the abdomen swells due to feeding etc, you could try a cotton bud moistned with warm warter and gently wipe over the piece of the exuvium thats still attached, do this in the direction of the hair growth (towards the spinnerets) and repeat the procedure, a few gentle attepmts should be enough to free it.
