  • Woodlice/Springtail Cultures

My woodlice and springtail cultures finally arrived today. The woodlice are as big as the spiders! (A.Versicolor). I was a bit concerned at first, but since they rarely visit the ground I think they'll be OK.

Question is, how many woodlice do I put in each enclosure? 1 or 2? 5 or 6? I am using 500ml rearing jars. Also, do they require any other requirements or will they just live in there happily feeding on leftovers, etc?

Any advice, do's and don'ts will be greatly appreciated.

    Jamie.

    woodlice

    hey, nice name lol
I personally wouldn't use them in sling tubs-their wouldn't be much waste to maintain many lice and you can easy up keep sling tubs unless you have hundreds.
Id keep them for your bigger spiders, I need to get some myself, where did u get them and are you happy with culture?

springtails can be used as a feeder item for slings. I expect they'd also eat tropical woodlice.
When adding these to the substrate I grab a large spoonful of substrate from the colony and put it directly into the new enclosure.

Hi there, yes nice to meet another Jamie!

Thanks for the info. I got them from www.dartfrog.co.uk I think they were £5.00 including postage for the culture, and there must have been 30 - 40 woodlice in there. Quite reasonable I think , I would reccomend.

Well I put 3 woodlice in each jar last night because like you said there's not much to maintain. I did get some springtails too for the same price.

Thanks again for the advice, Jamie.

Thanks Peter, you've saved me asking my next question! I was a bit unsure whether or not to do so last night. Having tried everything else I suppose theres no other way!

          Many thanks, Jamie.
