I just want to say thank you to all of you who have taken the time to post ideas and personal experience of collecting papers and articles its given me alot to do and think about.
thank you stuart for your post and i agree its deffinatly time to spend some money on the fundemental books like your reference to Smith(1986) Tarantula classification and identification. unfortunately the copy you found for £65 must soon have been snapped up and all i can find now are good quallity used copy's for £200+, i may have to wait a while to aquire that one.
thank you Stanely for the demonstration on how to use the world spider catalogue, i have taken a look on there before and with the exception of listing species i'd not really found it much use untill your post on here and now find it an invaluable resource.
Ray, i'd never considered the British library as a place to look for papers on this subject and in truth have only ever been there once befor but i forsee i may be spending much time in there in the near future, i've heard tell that they have a complete list of every publication/article they have on a computer system in house that has the title, author, publication date and location at to where in the building its held, can you confirm this or is a myth.
thank you again for your time gentlemen. i am now starting to compile a list of specific papers by author and date and then plan on going on the hunt, i'm quite looking forward to the leg work involved, and yes Stanely i do need another hobby
