  • Heat mat advice

    Hi
I have a year old mexican red knee ,the room it is in gets cold during the day and late at night when the central heating goes off. I purchased a 3.5 w 96mm x 150mm mat, after speaking to people and getting advice from the BTS members I put the mat on the side of the tank, the spider went and climbed the side and stopped next to the mat. After reading about spiders falling and getting injured I placed the mat half under the tank, came in tonight and the spider has dug out a hollow on top of the mat and seems to be Ok. It is eating and drinking fine. I have monitered the temp seems to be steady at 23 c.
    Thanks Neil

Hi Neil, It's normal practice to place the heat mat on the end or side of the tank, rather than beneath. What your Red Knee is doing is following the heat source, that temperature is fine, and it sounds comfortable, so as long as it can move away from it into a cool area if it needs to then see how it goes.
