  • Cyphonisia sp "silver"

I've just acquired a pair of these stunning spiders, marked up as silver trapdoor spiders and no other name so i've been doing a little research and now know them to be Cyphonisia sp.

i cant seem to find care information, growth rates, size when mature etc, they don't look like any other species of trapdoor i've ever seen and apear more like a member of the Theraphosidae family, my research places them in the family Barychelidae, though i find no reference to them under this family in platnik's world spider catalogue.

If anyone knows anything about i'd appreciate some info.

They are listed under Barychelidae in the WSC Wayne - Gen. Cyphonisia Simon, 1889 .

Wayne, mine just matured as a male and is about 2.5" legspan. I have no idea how big females get.

          Thanks lisa.

at a guess i'd say one is a mature female then lisa as its about 3inch l/s and deffo female, the smaller one is about half her size and haven't had the oppertunity to sex it yet. do you have any plans for your male?

they are really good looking spiders and so much fun watching them catch prey.

I've never had the privilege of seeing him eat anything Wayne! I haven't had him long and he must have been pre moult, and now I have no crickets for him because my livefood supplier isn't posting out right now.

He will be going out on breeding loan as soon as the weather warms up. If he survives and you want him after that, drop me a PM and I'll put you #2 on the list
